Discovering Valpolicella while savoring its excellent product: wine
Nestled in the green hills covered with vineyards and cherry trees, bordered by a large stream, Progno, the municipality of Negrar (17106 inhabitants ) occupies the easternmost valley of historic Valpolicella, the ancient Val Veriacus, meeting the Lessini Mountains to the north.
This route, mainly by car, will take you through the heart of the historic Valpolicella. Leaving the plains of San Pietro in Cariano (151 m above sea level), we will take you to the hills sourrounding Fumane (198 m above the sea level), then up to Marano (350 m above the sea level).
In the easternmost valley of the province of Verona are the villages of Colognola ai Colli, Tregnago, Cazzano di Tramigna and Montecchia. Here the beautiful vineyards, olive groves and cherry trees share the scene with many historically important monuments.
This route ia a car trip between the valleys of Illasi and Mezzane which lei east of Verona. Only 10 km from the city is San Martino Buon Albergo (14736 inhabitants), documented in Roman times but which already existed in the Bronze Age, attested by the remains of a fortified village in the nearby hills.
The Valpantena is a land of ancient memories in a lush and austere natural setting. Passing through the heavily industrialized valley and leaving behind the vineyards, cherry trees and olive groves, you finally reach the breathtaking pastures of Lessinia.
Le Torricelle or Toresele (towers) are the walls that enclose the historical centre of Verona. They get their name from the round, so callled Austrian Maximilian towers.
The municipality of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella (11,682 inhabitants) is in a central position between Verona (18 km) and Lake Garda (18 km). There are several neighbourhoods in its territory: Ponton, Domegliara - a train station on the Verona-Brenner line - Gargagnago, Monte and San Giorgio.
This route connects the settlements in Valpolcella that lie along the river Adige. The route starts from the railway brdige in Parona, and passes through Nassar, in the municipality of San Pietro, continuing to Pescantina, arriving to the municipality of Dolcè.
